You don’t need to be an etymology expert to understand what Aquagym is, it literally translates into doing gym in water. It’s a full, gentle and easy workout that is good for the body, heart and spirit which further works to create a harmonious figure and a relaxed mind, without much sweat. That’s exactly what we need!

Good for your figure

Once you’re in the water, the body only weighs a sixth of its mass and all movements become easier, even though the water does create a higher resistance than air and makes muscles work harder. That’s why aquagym works well on your figure. Muscles work harder without you even noticing.

The variety of movements enables the entire body to work, slims down the waist, tones the chest and buttocks, strengthens back and abdominal muscles while also toning the arms and shoulders. Aquagym does all of that!

As for calories expended, aquagym is also great. Did you know that 30 minutes of aquagym burns approximately 600 calories, the equivalent of one and a half hours of gym outside water?

Finally, thanks to the resistance of water , each movement massages and drains the skin surface, stimulating blood flow, reducing water retention and busting cellulite.

Aquagym strengthens muscles, increases heart rate and improves breathing tonus and blood flow. In addition to all the benefits which is natural to every sport, the advantage of aquagym is that it’s “non-traumatic”. Unlike many land activities, the risk of injury is minimal. The resistance of water prevents pulled, strained and sore muscles. All shocks are cushioned, there is no impact with the ground. Movements are gentle and flowing.

Result: joints work gently and gain flexibility without stress. There are few contraindications to aquagym similar to every sport, so before starting, talk about it with your doctor.

Being in the water, to begin with, is a joyful experience. It carries us and gives us a feeling of lightness that helps us forget our extra pounds. Water also has a soothing effecting creating a relaxing environment.

Aquagym, like any other sport, leads to the release of endorphins, the pleasure hormone. After a few minutes of exercise, you feel naturally good.

Age is not a limitation – You’re good to go from 7 to 77

Because aqua gum is a gentle, no-risk sport, it is accessible to all, regardless of their fitness, weight, age, etc. Pregnant women too! You don’t even need to know how to swim. A lot of the exercises are done near the edge, where you can reach the bottom. Aquagym lessons are run in local swimming pools and fitness clubs that have a pool.

Two sessions of 45minute each a week is ideal. For the lucky ones who live near the sea, nothing beats a short session everyday.

It’s a good idea to start right now

Aquagym doesn’t require sophisticated equipment. You just need a comfortable swimsuit that enables freedom of movement and resists chlorine. Also, bring a pair of slippers to avoid slipping during exercises.

Classes in local pools and fitness centres will provide all the equipment needed for the exercises: pool noodles, boards, Fixopies, Pullpush, fins… You can also buy your own equipment to enjoy aquagym in a pool outside of classes.
