What is common between Boxers, Kickboxers and MMA fighters? They all have bodies like Greek Gods and they decimate punching bags.

The punching bag is the most intimidating kit in a modern gym yet the most underutilised equipment. Now, if you agree with me on this, then it’s definitely time to upgrade to a gym which has a punching bag or even better, buy one. I still remember when I started using the punching bag, I had people come up to me and ask about my routine. I guess the sweat, the sound and the punches catch people’s attention.

First, forget the notion that punching bags are only for the ring or the cage action. It is for everyone who wants to achieve specific fitness goals. The best part about punch bag routines is that they can be incorporated into any form of fitness goals (Cardio, Endurance, Speed, Agility, Conditioning etc).

All you need to get started is a pair of boxing gloves, a punching bag and a fighter’s attitude.

How to Choose a Punching Bag?

Fun Fact: An hour of punching bag workout can burn 500 or more calories, which is more than any of your steady state cardio.

Training with a punching bag must be done while wearing a pair of gloves. These may be fingerless gloves with foam or gel cushioning, or gloves specially designed for punch bag training. Standard boxing gloves may also be used for this type of activity.

Additionally, in order to provide effective protection and ensure moisture absorption and proper hygiene, fingerless mitts or boxing wrap (for experienced boxers) should be worn under the gloves.
